Second server in Win reading the DroboApp library

I had a Media Plex Server in Windows PC connected to a Drobo FS, but now I have a new Drobo 5N for some months and it's working very well. Just a problem, because it can't transcode, some videos in .avi, and worst when these videos have external subtitles, are impossible to read . I need to use another way, with Kodi in my Android Box, for example.
I installed again a new PMS in my Windows PC for having the possibility of transcode, but just when I needed, the rest of the time I prefer the PMS in the DroboApps.

The thing is that I don't want to manage to identical libraries, now I have my Drobo library very personalised, I've modified some "name oder" and sinopsis and chosed differents posters.
That why my question, is it possible to configure my PMS Windows to read the library data of the PMS DroboApps?
In the DroboApps share I see a folder named "\DROBO5N\DroboApps\plex\Library\Plex Media Server", could I put this path in the Windows PMS parameter: "The path where local application data is stored", without having conflics? I didn't test it yet because I don't want to loose my library.

Thanks for your help.

"Claim Server" not working

I have a lifetime plex pass, I've logged in to my account, and I'm clicking on the "Claim Server" button. It keeps telling me that it was unsuccessful. I need to get this working so that it shows up in my server queue.

I'm using the latest PMS release on the Drobo 5n. This is my backup PMS, my primary PMS is on my Mac, and that server is claimed and working fine.

This server is not powerful enough to convert video

Hi all,

I'm new to Plex and this forum and am hoping someone can offer some help please.

My Plex setup seems to struggle with high definition movies. It will sometimes display an error saying "This server is not powerful enough to convert video".

In my limited knowledge, I thought I had specified a package that was sufficiently powerful so I'm hoping someone might be able to identify what the weak link or the weak setting in my setup is please.

My setup is as follows:
I’m running the Plex App on Apple TV which speaks via Wifi to me Mini Mac which has the Plex Server Software and all the files on a WD 1TB XHDD plugged in via USB 2.0.

The exact specs are as follows:

  • Apple Mac Mini (Late 2010), Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 12 GB RAM, 320GB HD
  • Apple TV 4th Gen
  • Sony Bravia 49” 4K Ultra HD Smart TV
  • Western Digital 1TB Elements USB 3.0 2.5" Portable Hard Drive
  • Orange Livebox Wifi Router
  • Speedtest results: 48mbps Download Speed, 28mbps Upload Speed

My gut instincts are as follows:

  • All the hardware is new and all the software up to date, except for the Mac Mini that was second hand- perhaps that is slow because of unknown 'abuse'?
  • Perhaps the Wifi is slow?
  • I'm also confused about how to set the 'Local Video Quality', 'Remote Video Quality' and 'Remote Audio Quality'.

Thanks for your time,

Kind regards,

Nic

Plex not updating TV Shows metadata

$

Hello,

I've recently re-installed Plex onto my Drobo5N after a lengthy hiatus. I've been pretty successful at getting everything up and running, except that Plex refuses to download metadata for any and all TV Shows. Movies work OK.

I started by installing the official Plex app through the Drobo Dashboard. I then downloaded the Drobo update and applied it by dropping the tgz into the DroboApps folder and rebooting the device. The Version reads 1.3.4.3285 on the Server -> General page.

I edited the agent settings for TheTVDB Shows by moving TheTVDB to the top of the list and Local Media Assets (TV) at the bottom. (I've since tried disabling Local Media Assets (TV), and it appears to have no effect.)

I created a TV Shows Library, added folder /mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Media/TV, and ensured TheTVDB was the selected Agent.

I then moved in some TV shows using the Naming and Organizing TV Shows specifications. Example paths for affected TV shows:
/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Media/TV/River Monsters/Season 08/River Monsters - S08E01 - Deep Sea Demon.mkv
/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Media/TV/Babylon 5/Season 01/Babylon 5 - S01E01 - Midnight on the Firing Line.avi
/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Media/TV/Mr. Robot/Season 01/Mr. Robot - S01E01 - eps1.0_hellofriend.mov.mkv

Plex picked up the changes to the library and added in the shows, but none of the show metadata gets updated. I can watch the shows just fine, and I've also Optimized a season successfully, so I don't think file permissions are at issue.

I've performed every combination of Update and Refresh at every level that I could find, including at the Library, TV Show, Season, and Episode levels. I've also removed, Cleaned, Emptied Trash, re-added, etc. as well as Unmatched and Fixed Match all to no avail.

Communication with TheTVDB works as indicated by the result set that shows when I click the "Fix Match" icon for any given show. I see no obvious issues in the logs, although I'm not sure what to look for exactly.

Can anyone offer some suggestions as what could be wrong or what to try next?

Plex needs to be started manually each time the Drobo restarts. This is fine if you remember to start the service manually but does anyone know a fix for this?

Album Artwork for Movies Not Updating

This started about a month ago, any new movies I added to my library do not add album artwork. I tried erasing the com.plexapp.agents.themoviedb Cache and then refreshed my entire Movie Library. This didn't work. I then tried backdating PMS to 1.0, which also did nothing. So I know this is a server connection issue I am just unsure on what to enable. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what I need to do to fix this?

Photo Libraries/Folders

I'm searching thru the Forums, YouTube Channels and the web, and I am not finding good info on how Plex handles photos. I mostly see negative comments around how bad Plex does handle photo libraries/folders that have already been created. I do not want to import my thousands of photos that are already in folders to then see them as one big pile. Can someone provide videos, more documentation around how Plex does this? I will be using a Drobo NAS with most of my Apple devices.

Plex+Drobo+Airport Extreme, a tale of recent woes

Long time listener, firsttime caller :)

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide. I've searched forums etc. etc. etc. before asking this. I'm running a Drobo 5n through an Airport Extreme to a commercial router/modem and hoping to access Plex through a browser. Things have been running smoothly for about three years but the recent required update due to the web interface change has brought my web viewing to a halt. I can stream locally over the network with no issues, I can even view my libraries through the browser, but I can't play media, the media 'pre-loads' but never actually plays. Plex server is at version 1.4.3.3433 (the latest I have access to as a Plex Pass member and the Airport Extreme is at version 7.6.8. The Remote Access tab in Plex is indicating that Plex isn't available remotely and suggests reviewing double NAT however my Airport Extreme is in 'Bridge' mode.

Any thought from the smarter guys in the room?

Again, thanks in advance for any assistance

Clear, Simple, Current Drobo Server Update Instructions

Updating my Drobo Server each time an update is needed is proving incredibly hard. I see LOTS of threads with LOTS of semi-contradictory advice, dating back years. Most/all of it doesn't work for me AND in the latest posts it seems that maybe there is a current issue with updating the servers even for people more technically skilled than me. Oh, and many/most of the explanations assume a technical expertise above my knowledge level.

It seems like the update process should be seamless but failing that it should be easy enough for people with decent computer skills to execute based on clear, easily available directions and that process should be reliable in that it should work every time if done properly. As it is, I mostly build a new server each time from scratch. This seems, err, inefficient.

I am at wit's end on how to make sense of updating Plex. I have really tried to figure this out short of posting here and I am not an internet/tech incompetent. I am better than most, tho far worse than some. If I struggle, the majority has no shot, I believe. Anyway, help, please?

I do not understand Plex's customer strategy at all. There is no support email service. I am directed to these forums but I cannot post to the Drobo Server forum. So how do I get information?

My particular issue is that updating my Drobo Server each time an update is needed is proving incredibly hard. I see LOTS of threads with LOTS of semi-contradictory advice, dating back years. This is probably not the right place to post this but I am at wit's end on how to make sense of updating Plex and this is the best I've been able to figure out. I am running plex on a drobo 5n and it tells me there is an update. Current version it says i have is Version 0.9.15.6 and that i have to install it manually. So i mapped the drobo apps folder eventually and i see a list of all the drobo apps there in the directory. At the bottom i see a plex.tgz file and i see a plex folder. I stop the plex server via drobo apps and i delete the plex.tgz file and download the latest version (1.5.0.3501-3b8374a5c march 17 2017) for the drobo from https://www.plex.tv/downloads/ and copy the file across to the drobo apps folder. I restart the drobo again via tools in drobo dashboard and wait for it to restart. Once that is completed, i open droboapps within the drobo dashboard and start plex media server. I select configure and the server stops. I start the server again and wait a few minutes. This time when i select configure it brings up the web page and i navigate to the server page where it tells me there is an update available and i am still on version 0.9.15.6.

Where did i go wrong???

im using windows 10 on pc to access drobo dashboard and drobo apps.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did something change wrt Local Media Assets?

Until relatively recently, when I've added TV Shows, the episode title that's present in the file would display when viewing my library. Now I see what appears to be the title from either TheTVDB or the filename. I checked my agent settings, and Local Media Assets was no longer at the top of the list. I've bumped it up, but I'm still not seeing my embedded titles. Same both when adding new titles or refreshing existing ones.

Any ideas?

Anyone else having issues with the latest Plex Pass build?

Use Drobo to backup NAS?

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded to a QNAP TVS-473 NAS which I'm using primarily for Plex but I also store other my other data on it. I now have a spare Drobo S which I was hoping to repurpose as my primary backup but I can't connect direct to the NAS because it needs the Drobo dashboard to work properly.

Would it be possible to backup up my NAS using Timemachine on my Mini? The Drobo is connected by USB3 to my Mini, while both my NAS and Mini are connected to the same router by Ethernet?

Thanks in advance

Server not powerful enough...can't find server...periodic errors

So, I am not a Plex expert. However, I have been enjoying it for several years, but lately, I keep running into annoying errors, extended buffering sessions, server not powerful enough, can't find server...what happened to it just works.

All my movies are .mkv. My server is the box Plex web interface runs on on, core i7 6700, 16 gig ram, macOS 10.12.4. I've attempted to read through the MANY threads with the same complaints but have not discovered an answer.

My server is more than adequate to handle whatever Plex throws at it, it doesn't go anywhere but every week or so Plex can't find it then I reboot and it miracously re-appears. I'm told I can't watch Bourne because my server is not powerful enough then, a few days later Bourne works fine, start to finish. I mean really, wtf?

I'd love it if someone could point me to a thread that solves my problems.
Thanks!

Local streaming not working properly / confusing streaming quality settings

$

Hi,
it seems like my PLEX setup doesn't recognize that my client (mostly the web app) is on the same network as my Drobo (PLEX server).

I also have the "This server is not powerful enough to convert video" problem (discussed here: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/153446/this-server-is-not-powerful-enough-to-convert-video) since some update in the past (before that update everything was working fine).
I don't want to start another discussion about that problem, but this problem only appears if I set my remote streaming quality (settings -> web -> player) to something different than "Original". That's strange because - if I understand correctly - the remote quality option is just for connections outside my PLEX server network. As long as I'm on the same network PLEX should use the local quality setting, right? (And by the way, what's the difference between "remote quality" and "online quality"?)

So my local quality is set to "Original" and my remote quality is usually set to something lower. But with this setting I get the "not powerful enough" error, even if I'm on the same network. If I change remote quality to "Original" the error disappears. So my guess is that PLEX doesn't recognize that I'm on the same network and always acts like I'm somewhere else.

I already checked things like changing from app.plex.tv/web to using the local ip address of my Drobo directly (same result).

Is there a way to check if PLEX recognizes the local network clients correctly? Or do I have to change some settings to get local playback working? (By the way, "Direct Play" and "Direct Stream" are already checked, if that makes any difference)

(Server version currently is 0.9.12.6, but same thing happened with earlier versions)

Got a problem

I used to do this all the time but now its not working.
I download the update file for my Drobo.
Stop PLex app from running.
Go to server using Windows 10 Explorer. copy the file downloaded as is to Drobo app folder.
Restart Drobo and then after full start, run plex app
And that should do it
But it doesn't.
still shows version 1.3.4.3285
